2017 Seminar Program

Virginia ACTE’s Professional Development and Leadership Seminar was held January 12–13, 2017, at the Downtown Hilton in Richmond. Guest speakers included Barry DuVal, President and CEO of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, who addressed the need for career and technical education pathways which lead to a competent and qualified workforce; and Michael Connet, with national ACTE, who provided updates on Perkins reauthorization and the future timelines.

Virginia Superintendent Dr. Billy J. Cannaday, Jr. updated the participants on the Profile of the Virginia Graduate and opportunities for career and technical education. Vanessa Rathberger of the Virginia Manufacturing Association discussed the opportunities for schools and students to participate in the “Dream It. Do It.” initiative.

Seminar participants received updates on the policy concerns facing career and technical education and made visits to the General Assembly. Each participant also received an “i am CTE” t-shirt to wear to the General Assembly.
